When I was approached to assist in establishing a regional Chamber of Commerce, the concept was immediately appealing. We are all aware that the various levels of government are all working hard in these difficult times. But it was obvious that a strong, united voice for private, independent business was indeed missing from the equation.

With the development of the Pontiac Chamber of Commerce, businesses in the region now have a real voice … a united force if you will … to speak for their needs. No longer need they go individually, hat in hand, trying seeking technical help or financial assistance. Now there is a large, united front to speak solely on their behalf.

The Chamber will also champion larger issues that affect many or all … inequities in postal rates or fuel pricing, pushing for more action in relation to a specific segment of the economy or business sector. A voice in the wilderness is easily lost. A demand from an institution representing all businesses … large or small … sounds loud and clear above the rest.

Every Chamber offers its members any number of benefits; rebates, discounts, insurance schemes, seminars and symposium to assist members and encourage innovation, and every little bit helps. But the one reason that every business owner knows in his or her heart … is that the great thing about being in business is that a well run business will return more than is put into it. The more you invest of yourself and your resources into your business, the more you get back. The same is true of your Chamber of Commerce.

Investing a little of yourself and your resources in your Chamber of Commerce will provide even greater returns for both you and your Chamber!
